On loan goalkeeper from QPR Martin Herdman made his debut in place of the injured Jack Harding. Jack Self was not available due to illness. Yesterday's signing Paul Stonehouse came straight into the starting XI.

It was an uneventful opening ten minutes but in the 11th minute Banbury created the first opening of the game when Elliot Sandy passed the ball out to Tom Winters on the left wing who crossed the ball into the centre where the incoming Ricky Johnson at the far post on the edge of the six-yard box saw his header superbly saved by Kings Langley goalkeeper Martin Bennett scrambling across his goal line to tip the ball away around the post for a corner.

Banbury would have much the better of the next ten minutes of the game. In the 21st minute a corner from the left taken by Winters was headed over the bar by Johnson from 12 yards.

A minute later though and United were indebted to a fine save from debutant goalkeeper Martin Herdman as Mitchell Weiss set-up Kieran Turner 12 yards out with his shot being tipped away around the post for a corner by the custodian diving to his left. This began a good spell for the visitors, forcing a succession of corners in the next five minutes with Banbury having to be at their best defensively to stay on level terms as the pressure built.

Indeed, the remainder of the half would see Kings Langley have the better of proceedings.

In the 44th minute Turner found himself in space on the edge of the Banbury penalty area but he wasted the opportunity shooting high and wide.

Seconds later United went close to taking the lead when Sam Humphreys passed the ball across the edge of the Kings Langley penalty area from right to left into the path of Winters whose shot across Barnett went just wide of the far post.

Banbury made a bright start to the second half. Mike Ford had brought om Leam Howards at half time and within 60 seconds of the re-start Johnson headed on the ball from the halfway line with Howards using his pace to get in front of Jorrell Johnson but Bennett came out to narrow the angle and do well to spread himself and save the United striker’s shot from the edge of the penalty area with his legs. From the resultant left-wing corner, taken by Winters, Luke Carnell rose to head the ball goalwards from 12 yards out with Charlie Wise getting up above the Kings Langley defence inside the six-yard box but he couldn’t keep his header down and it went over the bar.

In the 56th minute United went close once more when a corner from the right by Winters saw the incoming Carnell get his head to the ball two yards inside the six-yard box but he was denied a goal by Arjun Yung who did exceptionally well on the goal line to head the goal-bound effort up onto the underside of the crossbar, with the ball coming down and then being hacked away by Weiss.

Having not conceded during Banbury’s best spell of the game, Kings Langley now worked their way back into the game and began to create chances of their own.

On the hour mark a Weiss shot from the edge of the Banbury penalty area down the left flashed just wide of the far post. Three minutes later Matt Ball put Weiss through on goal down the middle but Herdman came out and knocked the ball away from the visiting striker before he could get a decent shot in, the ball going out to Turner on the right who crossed the ball back into the centre where Weiss in plenty of space had a golden opportunity to score but headed just wide of the far post from six yards out.

In the 71st minute some excellent passing play down the left from Kings Langley particularly from Yung ended with him shooting just wide from a few yards inside the Banbury penalty area down the left.

The game looked like it was heading for a relatively entertaining 0-0 draw until in the 79th minute a deflected shot from Charlie Hawtin from the edge of the Kings Langley penalty area down the right looped up and hit the cross bar with Elliot Sandy then being knocked over by Macsen Fraser on the edge of the six-yard box as he went for the rebound. Sandy competently converted the spot-kick to put United ahead.

Kings Langley were not though about to give up on getting something from the game though and in the fourth minute of stoppage time they got their reward for their efforts when substitute Steve Ward chipped the ball into the centre from the edge of the Banbury penalty area down the right with Jorrell Johnson propelling himself in front of the Banbury defence at the six-yard line to head the ball into the top corner of the net to make it 1-1.
