Changes from the side that had lost at Biggleswade Town last Saturday saw Jack Westbrook return after illness and a starting place for Tom Winters on the left wing. These came in for Tom Bradbury who had to be content with a place on the substitute's bench and Andy Gunn who has been released. The club's other new signing Manny Duku started on the bench.

Banbury got off to the worst of starts when Jack Westbrook bundled over Ben Thomson right on the edge of the Banbury penalty area. With the referee deeming it to be on the line, a penalty was awarded and Charlie Davis made no mistake striking the ball high into the top corner of the net to Banbury goalkeeper Jack Harding's right.

Weymouth would go on to have the better of the next quarter of an hour of the game. Banbury worked their way into the game though and on 19 minutes a strong run forward from the half way line by Tom Winters to a couple of yards outside the Weymouth penalty area on the left saw him then unleash a left foot shot which went just wide of the far post.

Three minutes later though and Banbury were level when a free kick ten yards outside the Weymouth penalty area on the right taken by Winters was put deep inside the penalty area but only cleared out by a defender as far as Jack Self a couple of yards outside the area on the right who then passed the ball across to George Nash over on the left, the ball bouncing up nicely for him to hit a glorious shot high into the far top corner of the net giving Tom McHale in the Weymouth goal no chance.

This changed the complexion of the game somewhat with Banbury now proceeding to have slightly the better of the remainder of the half. There was not a lot to trouble either custodian though until the last couple of minutes. Firstly Weymouth's Ashley Wells passed the ball inside from the right to Thomson on the edge of the penalty area who did well to wriggle himself into a goal shooting opportunity from 15 yards with Harding having to dive full length to his right to tip the shot away around the post for a corner. Then Zac McEachran went on a run from ten yards inside the Weymouth half to the edge of the visitor's penalty area before shooting for the bottom corner of the net but McHale was equal to the effort diving to his right to make the save.

Weymouth started the second half brightly. In the 48th minute the overlapping Mark Cooper down the left took the ball inside and hit a fierce shot from a narrow angle which looked bound for the back of the net until Jack Westbrook got his body into the way and deflected the shot over the bar for a corner. Weymouth would continue to have the better of next quarter of an hour of the game but Banbury worked hard and at this point had what was probably their best spell of the game.

In the 63rd minute a 25 yard long range effort from Jack Self went just a couple of yards wide of the post. Five minutes later an Eddie Odhiambo cross from the right was headed just over by Ricky Johnson.

But Weymouth responded by going close twice themselves. Firstly a shot from the edge of the Banbury penalty area by Thomson down the right was headed away for a corner at the far post by Westbrook just ahead of the incoming Stuart Fleetwood. From the resultant corner taken by Davis a scramble on the edge of the Banbury six yard box developed with eventually substitute Tiago Sa stabbing the ball just wide,

There was plenty of honest endeavour from both sides in the last twenty minutes, as there had been throughout the game, but with neither goalkeeper being overly troubled it ended 1-1 which over the course of the ninety minutes was a fair result.
