United went behind to an early goal when in the sixth minute a Chris Flood low cross into the middle from inside the Banbury penalty area down the left went through to James Dobson and though his shot from 10 yards was well saved by Jack Harding with his legs, the ball came back to Dobson who made no mistake at the second attempt from the edge of the six-yard box.

Banbury responded well to going behind and the game began to develop into an equal affair though Slough went close to doubling their advantage in the 16th minute when good play down the left put Dobson through on goal but Harding did well to come out, narrow the angle and block the Slough man’s shot at the expense of a corner.

However, Banbury would get back on level terms in the 25th minute when Jack Finch knocked the ball forward through to Elliot Sandy down the middle who in a one-on-one with Jack Turner in the Slough goal neatly finished.

Banbury would now be matching the league high-flyers and went close to taking the lead in the 37th minute when an excellent cross in from the right by Charlie Hawtin saw Ravi Shamsi not quite get enough on his glancing header 10 yards out and the ball drifted wide of the far post.

Eight minutes into the second half and Slough were very close to restoring their lead when Lee Togwell’s shot from the edge of the Banbury penalty area went just inches wide of the post.

Just after the hour mark Shamsi took the ball inside from down by the corner flag on the right before shooting from the edge of the six-yard box but his effort from a narrow angle was well saved by Turner.

With 20 minutes to go Slough began though to have the better of proceedings and put Banbury under some pressure and it looked as though a goal might be coming and it duly did so in the 77th minute when a cross in from the left by George Wells was headed home into the bottom corner of the net by Chris Flood to put Slough back in front.

Banbury kept plugging away though with substitute Leam Howards in the 82nd minute getting onto the end of a long ball down field from Jack Self and firing over the bar from the edge of the Slough penalty area. Then with four minutes to go Howards pounced on a defensive howler from Nathan Smart, intercepting his poor back-pass, before rounding Turner and knocking the ball into an empty net.

Overall, this was Banbury's best home performance for some time and though Slough will feel having conceded so late, and in the manner that they did, it was two points dropped over the course of the 90 minutes it was probably a fair result.
