A late goal from Jefferson Louis gives United a win over the Southern League Champions in latest pre-season friendly

United were again missing a number of players through holidays and injury but those available gave a very good account of themselves against last season's Southern League Champions.

It was an eventful opening to the game with Darren Pond firing just wide from distance and then Sam Humphreys long range effort forcing James Rae into a decent save. Chippenham responded with Alex Ferguson shooting just wide from 25 yards and then from the same distance Andy Sandell’s well struck shot was parried up by Jasko Keranovic, the ball hitting the crossbar before coming down and being collected by the custodian.

But United would go ahead in the 12th minute when a cross from the right by Jefferson Louis was turned into his own net by Will Richards from the edge of the six yard box.

Chippenham began to press for an equaliser and a cross from the right by Sandell found Dean Evans on the penalty spot but his shot drifted just wide of the far post but in the 34th minute it was 1-1 with Sandell’s low cross from the right being struck home by Josh Morgan-Williams from ten yards out.

Banbury went close to regaining the lead just before the interval when a cross from the right by Charlie Hawtin was chested down at the far post on the edge of the six yard box by Jefferson Louis whose fierce shot hit the underside of the bar, the ball bouncing down and running away out for a throw in on the opposite side of the pitch.

Chippenham would though take the lead five minutes into the second half when a cross in from the left found its way through to Dave Pratt on the edge of the six yard box who made not mistake in firing the ball past Keranovic.

However, six minutes after going behind United were level when a corner from the right taken by Sam Humphreys was cleared back to him and he then passed the ball to Jack Self just outside the penalty area who crossed the ball to the far post where Darren Pond’s fine header went across the visiting custodian into the far corner of the net.

Dave Pratt went close to restoring Chippenham’s lead when his shot from the edge of the Banbury penalty area on the right went across Keranovic and hit the far post before coming out. The visitors went close again when Mark Cooper’s shot from distance went inches wide of the post.

Ten minutes from time Banbury Untied U18 player Ryan McDonald’s curling shot from the left hand edge of the Chippenham penalty area went just wide of the far post.

However, two minutes from time Jefferson Louis struck a 20 yard free-kick into the bottom corner of the net to give United the win.
