Five different goalscorers as United romp home hitting five past Hayes

Two goals in the first five minutes of this game set Banbury well on the way to a comfortable won over Hayes & Yeading United at the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium .

Changes from the previous Saturday’s team against Stratford Town saw the returning Conor McDonagh partnering Ricky Johnson up front with Zac McEachran dropping deeper into midfield and Sam Humphreys having to be satisfied with a place on the bench.

A Jack Westbrook free-kick in the first minute from well inside his own half on the right was put into the Hayes penalty area with the ball bouncing up over the head of Danny Boness in the visitor's goal and into the back of the net. Whilst there was some fortune about the first goal there was none about the second three minutes later as Jack Self set Callum White up on the right hand edge of the Hayes penalty area who then drove the ball low into the far corner of the net.

Hayes nearly responded immediately when a cross from the left by Terence Carter was headed just wide at the near post by Cole Brown. Just before the quarter of an hour mark a cross from the right by Ryan Hope saw Mitchell Weiss get his head to the ball first eight yards out but his effort was off target.

In the 25th minute Ricky Johnson had the ball in the back of the net for the home side but the goal was ruled out for off-side. However, the Banbury striker did not have to wait long to score a legitimate goal as a minute later he picked up the ball five yards outside the Hayes penalty area on the left before taking the ball across towards the centre of the goal and then unleashing a superb 25 yard strike into the top corner of the net.

In the 30th minute Jack Harding in the Banbury goal did well to hold a 30 yard on target shot from Hope as it skidded low along the greasy service.

Banbury went very close to extending their lead further four minutes before the interval when Zac McEachran put Conor McDonagh through on goal down the right hand side of the Hayes penalty area. Boness came out to narrow the angle and though McDonagh neatly pushed the ball past the custodian it didn’t quite have the legs on the heavy surface and Brown just got back to kick the ball off the line.

Hayes were better at the start of the second half but Banbury continued to look the more dangerous. In the 49th minute there was an excellent cross from the left by Marvin Martin but Mahlondo Martin at the far post did just enough to hamper the incoming White at the far post and Adam Everitt was able to hack the loose ball away to safety.

Banbury would put the result of the game beyond any doubt in the 71st minute when Conor McDonagh did well to take the ball in from the right before unleashing a fierce shot from close range and a very narrow angle into the roof of the net.

The icing was put on the cake two minutes from time when George Jeacock set up Darius Browne on the edge of the Hayes penalty area and he shot into the bottom corner of the net to make the final score 5-0.

An impressive performance from Banbury who move up to seventh in the table, albeit clearly the afternoon was made easier by the two early goals from which Hayes & Yeading never recovered.
