United went behind early when in the fourth minute Calvin Brooks broke through down the right and passed the ball back from close to the by-line at the edge of the six yard box into the path of the incoming Harry Baker in a central position who struck the ball from 12 yards into the far top corner of the net.

United were second best for the next 25 minutes with Weymouth having a number of attempts on goal and Mark Travers in the Weymouth goal having an easy time but Banbury stepped up their game at this point and began to ask a number of questions of the visitors.

Weymouth werte grateful to Travers for an excellent save on 35 minutes from a 20 yard strike from George Nash which looked bound for the top corner of the net before the coustodian's heroics as he managed to push the ball acrobatically away for a corner.

But United's efforts and improved play got theor reward on 44 minutes when a Charlie Hawtin cross from the right went through to Tom Winters coming in down the left who fired the ball in from a narrow angle with it taking a deflection of Abdulai Baggie into the back of the net.

Banbury were the better team early in the second half. But on 57 minutes after Travers had pulled off another good save from a fierce shot from a narrow angle down the right from Conor McDonagh, Weymouth broke very quickly with Baggie surging forward before passing to his right to Ben thomson who took the ball down to the by-line on the edge of the six yard box before passing low into the centre where th incoming Baker had an easy tap in from close range to make it 2-1.

Weymouth looked relatively comfortable for the next period of the game but Banbury pushed forward in the last ten minutes giving Weymouth some uncomfortable moments.

The closest Banbury came to scoring was in the 89th minute when a cross in from the left by Winters saw Luke Carnell's header saved by the legs of the custodian with the loose ball falling to Leam Howards inside the six yard box who stabbed the ball goalwards only for Stephane Zubar to clear it off the line with Banbury players and supporters appealing that firstly it had crossed the line before the big defender had knocked it away and secondly that he had cleared it away with his arm but the referee was having none of it and to be fair it all happened so quickly that even the match video cannot clear those incidents up.
