Tomorrow (Saturday) United entertain Barwell in a Southern League Premier Central Division game 3.00pm kick-off

After five seasons in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, in which they finished around mid-table in each of those, Barwell were transferred in last summer’s restructuring across to the Southern League Premier Central Division. This is not though the Canaries first taste of the Southern League as they had two seasons in the Premier Division in 2011/12 and then 2012/13, in which the two clubs met. Banbury lost both games up in Leicestershire and though winning comfortably at the Spencer Stadium in 2011/12, Barwell would complete the double over United the following season. The game at Barwell this season was played on a Tuesday in mid-October. United went in front on the quarter of an hour mark through a Greg Kaziboni header but two goals in the final eleven minutes, firstly from Jahvan Davidson-Miller and then a Charlie Wise own goal gave the home side a 2-1 win.

Barwell currently sit in 15th place in the table with 27 points from 22 games played, six points behind ourselves though they do have two games in hand on us. Last month though saw a major upheavel at Kirkby Road when Jimmy Ginnelly who had managed the club for over eight years left to take over the manager’s position at Nuneaton Borough. The club have since appointed former Brackley Town and Barwell player Guy Hadland to the vacant post, having been Ginnelly’s Assistant for the past four years.

Barwell will go into tomorrow’s game in confident mood after a 4-0 home win last Saturday against Redditch United and an impressive 3-3 draw away to Tamworth on New Year’s Day.

There should be no lack of confidence on the part of the Puritan boys either for a good performance from a much changed United side on New Year’s Day saw them beat Alvechurch 3-1, albeit it took two goals in stoppage tome at the end of the second half to finally break the resistance of the Worcestershire side.
