United entertain National League South side Bath City tomorrow in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup – 3.00pm kick-off

Having got past Weymouth in a replay in the First Qualifying Round, United now face tomorrow National League South high-flyers Bath City at the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium in the Second Qualifying Round 3.00pm kick-off.

Bath have made a good start to their season and our currently in fifth place in the National League South table after last Saturday’s stoppage time goal from Joe Raynes earned them a 2-1 win at Oxford City. As a National League South side they were exempt from the FA Cup First Qualifying Round.

For United, last Saturday saw us suffer our first defeat of the season, losing 3-1 at home in the league to St Neots Town but midweek saw a return to winning ways with a 3-1 league success at Bedworth United.

This will be the first time that the clubs have met in the FA Cup though the sides have met in Southern League action for two seasons in the late 1960s and between 2004/05 and 2006/07 as well as in a couple of Southern League Cup games, one in the 60s and one in the 70s. Bath have had much the better of past meetings having won seven of the 12 games to Banbury’s just two. The most memorable game to many United supporters was though when we visited Twerton Park for the first game of the 2004/05 season – not for the result which was a 2-1 win for Bath! – but for the fact that this was Banbury’s first ever game as a Southern League Premier Division club after our promotion from the Eastern Division at the end of the previous season. A worthy club and ground to visit for what was the start of a new era for the club! (photo shows some of the Banbury supporters at that game).

Bath City are a well-supported non-league club home and away and with locally the game the “talk of the town” it is expected to be a very good crowd with a great atmosphere, so why not come down and see if United can beat a higher level club in the FA Cup for the first time in over 25 years! It is time that hoodoo was broken!

Tomorrow's match has kindly been sponsored by Newly Weds Foods. The club is very grateful for their support.

Free parking at the ground but as a large crowd is expected Chiltern Railways have kindly agreed that we may use free of charge a designated area of their car park accessible via Station Approach as an overflow car park. Please follow the directions of the club steward if parking in this area and please ensure you obtain a voucher from the steward and display this on your dashboard.

The old Chiltern Railway car park on Tramway Industrial Estate is also available for use, free of charge. It would be very helpful to the club if local supporters who know their way around were able to use this facility.

The Premier League game between Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur will be shown on the big screen in the Clubhouse after the game – so no need to dash off up town to watch it, you can watch it in the company of football fans in the Spencer Clubhouse!

And why not have a go on the club’s 50/50 draw. One big prize and this has been over £150 at recent games – and we would be hoping to break the £200 barrier tomorrow - you have to be in it to win it!!
