Banbury got off to the best of starts going ahead as early as the sixth minute when Ricky Johnson headed the ball on in the middle of the park to Conor McDonough who from inside the home penalty area laid the ball back into the path of Jack Self who crossed into the centre from the right with Elliot Sandy heading the ball home from 12 yards past Tyler McCarthy in the Bishop's Stortford goal.

Banbury continued to have the better of the game as the half developed and in the 30th minute made it 2-0 when a Charlie Hawtin cross from the left was headed down by Ricky Johnson into the path of Sandy who made no mistake striking the ball low past the home custodian from 10 yards for his second goal of the game.

Just a minute later and it was 3-0 when another excellent cross from the left by Charlie Hawtin was headed goalwards by Johnson at the far post with Conor McDonagh slotting the ball home from close range at the opposite post.

Bishop's Stortford went close in the 35th minute when a Jason Williams header from a corner was cleared off the line but it was an impressive first half from Banbury as they took a 3-0 lead into the interval.

Banbury would totally dominate at the start of the second half and it looked just a matter of time before they added to their first half tally and this they duly did so on 58 minutes when a corner from the left by Hawtin was met by the head of Luke Carnell on the edge of the six yard box and though his effort was blocked on the line the ball rebounded back to him and he fired the ball home from close range.

Bishop's Stortford went close in the 71st minute when a shot from Darren Foxley from the edge of the Banbury penalty area down the left went just wide of Jack Harding's far post.

But this was a rare promising move from the home side and in the 76th minute it was 5-0 when good play down the right between Conor McDonagh and Jordy Ngathe saw the latter cross into the centre with Tom Winters, who had only been on the pitch a couple of minutes as a substitute, heading the ball powerfully home from the edge of the six yard box.

Overall a fine performance from United and an excellent response to Wednesday night's disappointing defeat at Farnborough.
