Banbury keep up their play-off challenge with an impressive 4-0 win at Chesham

Manager Mike Ford opted for the same starting eleven that had beaten Chesham on Tuesday except that the returning from injury George Nash came in for the unavailable Jack Self.

The first twenty minutes were uneventful but Banbury would make the all-important breakthrough in the 24th minute when a free-kick from the left taken by Tom Winters was headed home in the centre by Ricky Johnson.

Just four minutes later it was 2-0 when a corner from the right by Winters saw Luke Carnell get his head to the ball at the edge of the six yard box, the ball going into the ground and bouncing up to go into the top corner of the net off the woodwork.

Banbury continued their good spell and a cross from Tom Bradbury from the left was cleared out only as far as Zac McEachran whose shot was well held by Richard Hayward in the Chesham goal.

In the 40th minute Chesham finally brought Jack Harding in the Banbury goal into making a save when a long range shot from Sam Youngs was tipped away by the custodian around the post for a corner.

Banbury went close to a third goal just three minutes into the second half when a corner from the right by Winters fell to Carnell just inside the penalty area, his shot being deflected just inches wide of the post.

In the 56th minute a low cross in from the right from just inside the penalty area by Callum White caused havoc in the centre with the ball coming back off the post from an attempted clearance by Curtis Ujah and then from the rebound Johnson being denied a second goal by the upright.

Chesham though still had their fair share of the game but with the Banbury defence playing well Harding was not unduly troubled.

Banbury always looked dangerous when going forward and went close in the 70th minute when Manny Duku burst through the centre showing good pace only for his dinked shot as Hayward came out going just over the bar.

But Banbury were to get their third goal in the 75th minute when a great surging run by Duku through the middle saw him then unselfishly pass across to Johnson who in plenty of space fired the ball across the home custodian into the far bottom corner of the net from 12 yards.

Banbury wrapped up the scoring in the first minute of stoppage time when the impressive Duku got the better of Curtis Ujah in the middle of the park, then taking the ball to the edge of the penalty area before taking it around the goalkeeper and though he had been forced too wide to shoot himself he laid the ball back to the incoming Sam Humphreys who fired home from 10 yards.

What a day, a 4-0 win at Chesham and even more good news the Clubhouse Car Park has been tarmacked today!!
