Two goals in a three minute period late in the game condemns the team to defeat

MATCH REPORT – TUESDAY 16 OCTOBER
Barwell 2 Banbury United 1

Banbury winless run extended to four games after a disappointing loss at Barwell.

After successive goalless draws manager Mike Ford opted to go with a 3-5-2 formation. With Lee Henderson’s absent through injury Harry Whitehead recalled from loan at Kidlington to partner Charlie wise and Ricky Johnson at the back.

It was Wise who would have Banbury’s best chance when he headed wide when well placed after ten minutes. However Banbury did not have to wait long to get on the scoresheet. A flowing move from keeper Jack Harding forwards saw a John Mills cross headed home by Greg Kaziboni.

There were further opportunities to increase the lead with loan man Mills proving a threat. Most of the home team’s best play resulted from Liam Canavan in midfield although he was booked just before the break. In first half added time the home team’s Gascoigne and Mills had an accidental clash of heads which saw Barwell needing to make a substitution for the second half.

Banbury could not find the same fluidity in the second period but restricted Barwell mainly to shots from distance. Harding did make one great save from a close range Jahvan Davidson-Miller effort.

Davidson-Miller was to go better than that on 79 minutes when he was allowed too much time and was able to fire home past Harding’s near post to level things up. Three minutes later and the game had been turned on its head. Harding was unable to gather a corner cleanly and the ball went into the net off Charlie Wise

There was no way back for Banbury, the game ending 2-1 to Barwell, a poor result for the visitors who had looked comfortable for much of the game.
