The “Road to Wembley” begins tomorrow for United with an FA Cup trip to Hartley Wintney

United travel to play Combined Counties Premier Division side Hartley Wintney tomorrow in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup 3.00pm kick-off.

Hartley Wintney have already played an FA Cup game this season, having beaten Hellenic League Division One East side Chinnor 2-0 away in the Extra Preliminary Round. They have a 100% winning record this season, having also won their opening five league games and they top the Combined Counties Premier Division table having scored 27 goals in those five games. Despite playing at Southern League feeder level they have had some recent success in the FA Cup, reaching the Fourth Qualifying Round two seasons ago (something United have failed to do since season 1980/81!) before they went out to Daventry Town.

This will be the first time United have begun their FA Cup campaign in the Preliminary Round since season 2003/04, though the less said about that occasion probably the better as it was a totally embarrassing afternoon losing 6-1 away to lower level Eastern Counties League side Wroxham!

The First Qualifying Round draw has already been made and so both sides know what awaits the winners who will be at home against either Southern League Central Division side Fleet Town or Combined Counties Premier Division side Badshot Lea on the 12th September.

Should a replay be required it will replace the scheduled league game against Evesham United on Monday afternoon. Should Evesham United draw their FA Cup match at Chasetown tomorrow and there is no replay required between Banbury United and Wintney Manor then there will be no game at the Spencer Stadium on Monday afternoon. The website will be updated on Saturday evening with the latest news on fixtures.

Squad news for tomorrow is that Ricky Johnson and Jon Steedman return after missing last weekend but Nic Evangelinos Is unavailable and he will also miss Monday’s game against Evesham United. Everyone else is fit and available.
