It was a meeting of two former strike partners for Banbury United when Ronnie Johnson and Kevin Wilson met up prior to a pre- season friendly.

The pair met up prior to a pre- season friendly on Saturday 18th July 2015 at the Spencer Stadium with Nuneaton running out 3-0 winners in front of a healthy 250 crowd!

It was in the late 1970s that both players had worn the Banbury jersey prior to Wilson’s record United transfer of £25,000 to Derby County – Johnson joked "yes we played a number of times as twin strikers, our careers went in different directions - Kevin went to Derby County and I went back to Easington Sports in the Hellenic league!!"

Johnson went on to express his thanks to Kevin for bringing along his team and always use him as a great example for how you can progress in the professional game with dedication, commitment, obviously skill and on occasions a bit of good fortune!

Other players to progress from the Banbury ranks to professional football include Mick Kearns, Ollie Kearns, Martin Singleton and Dick Pratley!

In the last few days it has also been highlighted that a former player from last season Jordan Green has signed for AFC Bournemouth – The club would like to congratulate him on his signing and wish him much success but would highlight that contrary to media coverage United had no involvement in a transfer or any transaction, Jordan was of course a free agent after leaving at end of season!
