Goals from Debbie Andrews and Katerina Poborska gave United a 2-0 win over Haddenham Ladies

United bounced back from last week’s narrow defeat to City Belles with goals from Debbie Andrews and Katerina Poborska giving them a 2-0 win over Haddenham Ladies.

Banbury got off to the best of starts, going ahead in just the sixth minute when Debbie Andrews got onto the end of a through ball from Emily Parker before running on and competently firing the ball past the home custodian.

On 15 minutes United went close to doubling their advantage but Emily Parker was unfortunate to see her effort superbly saved by the Haddenham goalkeeper and she was again denied by the home custodian four minutes later by another excellent save.

Just before half time, Andrews saw her shot tipped onto the post by the Thame goalkeeper.

But Banbury would get the all-important second goal just after the hour mark. Poborska ran onto the end of a through ball down the middle before letting fly from 12 yards, the goalkeeper managed to get a hand to the ball but couldn’t stop it from finding its way into the top corner of the net.

United were very close to making it 3-0 five minutes later when a Josie Clark shot from the edge of the penalty area went just inches wide of the post.

Though Haddenham had their fair share of the game in the final twenty minutes, Banbury defended well to see the game out and return home with the three points.

Banbury United squad (rolling subs): Katie McLean, Charlotte Pitts, Caitlin Timms, Leah Kinch, Sarah Rhind-O’Neil, Rachel Dunbar, Kailey Hardy, Josie Clark, Emily Parker, Katerina Poborska, Jenny Hoggins, Yazmin Holmes, Lynsey Burdock, Rose Clark, Debbie Andrews.
