Manager Mike Ford was without the ill Ricky Johnson and the unavailable Darren Pond.

Kings Langley began the better of the two sides. In the eighth minute a cross from the left was headed straight at Jack Harding in the Banbury goal at the far post by Kieran Turner. Four minutes later a shot from Jack Waldren was hacked off the line by Jack Westbrook.

But Kings Langley would take the lead in the 12th minute when Mitchell Weiss broke through down the left before striking the ball low across the outcoming Harding into the far corner of the net.

Banbury struggled to threaten the home side’s goal though on the half hour a cross from the right by Tom Winters did strike the top of the Kings Langley crossbar.

This did start a better spell for Banbury and in the 33rd minute Conor McDonagh broke through into the right hand side of the penalty area but his shot was well saved by Ross Hampton in the Kings Langley goal with his legs as he came out to narrow the angle.

Despite a better last quarter of an hour for Banbury the home side went close to doubling their lead in the 39th minute when a cross from the right by Gareth Price was headed just over at the near post by Kieran Turner.

Banbury though came out fired up for the second half and dominated the opening stages. A George Nash shot from the edge of the area was well blocked by a defender and Ravi Shamsi shot over the bar from 20 yards.

The heavy pressure told though in the 55th minute when Conor McDonagh did well to turn and make room for a shot from 15 yards out, striking the ball low into the bottom corner of the net.

Two minutes later and Kings Langley should have restored their lead but a Gareth Price header from a right wing cross was put wide when it looked easier to score. But just over 60 seconds later and Banbury were in front when a corner from the left by Winters was headed home at the far post by Luke Carnell.

On the hour mark though and it was 2-2 when a corner from the left was pumped into the Banbury penalty area, a header from Gareth Price hitting the crossbar before the rebound was headed in by Jorrell Johnson.

It was all level for just two minutes though as a low cross in from the right from McDonagh was converted from close range by Jefferson Louis.

In the 66th minute Banbury opened up a two-goal lead when Shamsi crossed low into the centre from the by-line on the edge of the six yard box on the right and Jack Self was on hand in the centre to see the ball home.

The goal fest continued because in the 70th minute Kings Langley had reduced the deficit to a single goal when Dean Hitchcox converted a penalty kick after Price had been bundled over just inside the penalty area.

In the 77th minute Weiss shot just wide from the edge of the Banbury penalty area. The last two minutes of normal time saw Louis Bircham head a cross from the right straight at Harding and then a Hitchcox shot from 25 yards brought out a diving save from Harding.

But with Kings Langley unable to find a late equaliser, it was Banbury who returned to Oxfordshire with the three points

A much improved performance from United in the second half and on that basis just about a fair result.
