Striker Leam Howards has announced that he is to leave the club in order to play on a more regular basis

Leam came through the club’s junior, youth and reserve sides to make his first team debut in April 2012. After a short spell with Abingdon Town he returned to Banbury in August 2014 and the following season played a key part in the club’s Southern League South & West Division promotion winning side, scoring 17 goals in all competitions that season.

After spending most of season 2016/17 with Ardley United, Leam returned to Banbury last season and made 35 first team appearances in all competitions (over 2/3rds of those, 24, as a substitute), scoring 16 goals which included a memorable six goals in an Oxfordshire Senior Cup game against Oxford City Nomads.

Leam’s first team career record at Banbury shows he scored 57 goals from 151 appearances.

Leam issued the following statement on his twitter account “I am sad to announce I am leaving. But I just wanted to thank the fans, the coaching staff and also the players for the time I have been with you. I just think now is the time for me to be playing week in, week out and keep improving my game. I wish you all the best in the upcoming season.”

United Manager Mike Ford commented “Leam is a top lad who has made a massive contribution in his time here. It’s a shame he’s decided to leave, it would have been good if he had decided to stay and we wish him good luck at his new club.”

Everyone at Banbury United would like to thank Leam for his contributions throughout his time at the club and wish him all the best for the future.
