The Club has to inform supporters that Ronnie Johnson has today resigned his position as Chairman and as a Director of Banbury United Community Football Club.

Ronnie has issued the following statement:

“It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to resign as Chairman of Banbury United FC forthwith.
To be honest, due to business commitments I nearly resigned during the summer but my fellow directors persuaded me to carry on for the time being. That time has now come and I leave with the satisfaction of a job well done in resurrecting this famous club. I have found myself getting stressed over issues I cannot control in recent weeks and I knew it was time to call it a day!

I can now stand back with a smile and enjoy the fantastic strides forward this club has made on the pitch and with the clubhouse and ground facilities.

I would like to thank my fellow board members for their great effort and help over the past two years, to the extremely important and wonderful sponsors who have come forward from the community with Nathan and Nigel Matthews at Banbury Plant & Skip Hire showing the club incredible support with the ground and shirt sponsorship.

Furthermore, I would like to thank the many volunteers, the life blood of any non-league club, without you where would we be? The fans and the red army have been a credit throughout my chairmanship and the support a major factor in our forward march!

Finally, to all the players and management over the last two seasons and this campaign – I have never missed a game home or away – I have been there at famous victories – I have been there at a few drubbings but whilst not on the pitch I have headed and kicked every ball, I have felt every tackle, I have felt the joy and the disappointment and I can assure you I was there to defend my management and players for any abuse, ridicule or unfair criticism from whatever quarter. We truly have had and still continue to have some great lads who have done their best for this great club, I thank you all. With the present squad I wish you all the best for the remainder of the season starting with tomorrow and the magic of the FA Cup – WE ARE UNITED!”

The remaining Directors of Banbury United are grateful for Ronnie’s support and leadership over the course of the last two years.

Stephen Barlow, Club Secretary commented “Ronnie has been a brilliant Chairman for Banbury United and his infectious support has been one of the major factors in the revitalising of the club. Mark Allitt and I persuaded him to get involved with the Community Benefit Society as just a “figure-head”. He has often reminded us of that, particularly when we are cleaning out the changing rooms! Of course, he has contributed far more than that. He leaves the club in a really healthy position from where, with the support of our supporters, we can continue to take the club forward on and off the pitch.”

Ronnie has been interviewed on Puritans Radio this afternoon and the interview can be listened to here.

Meanwhile it is all systems go for tomorrow’s FA Cup game against Thatcham Town – thanks for your continued support
