United entertain Frome Town tomorrow afternoon (Saturday) in a Southern League Premier Division game kick-off 3.00pm.

Frome are in their sixth consecutive season at Premier Division level and though they found it difficult to maintain that status in a couple of seasons out of the last five, most notably season 2014/15 when we occupied the final relegation place and Frome finished one place above us and survived, last season saw improvement with a comfortable mid-table finish. And they have made a similar start to this season and thus can justifiably claim now to be an established Premier Division side. Frome don’t though come to the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium in the best of form, with just the one win in their last six league games, and that against struggling Cinderford Town, and lost rather disappointingly 3-0 at Dorchester Town on Tuesday night.

As for ourselves we did the double over Chippenham with our 2-1 win on Tuesday evening. There are not many teams that are likely to be able to say that come the end of the season! Many were going around saying it must be the first time we had done that but not so, remarkably we also did the double over them in season 2012/13!

Tomorrow will be Frome’s fifth league visit to the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium and whilst they may in previous seasons never been a side challenging at the top end of the table they certainly have a decent record here, for United have failed to beat Frome in any of the previous four games.

Older fans may well remember our Fourth Qualifying Round FA Cup games against Frome back in season 1972/73, a 1-1 draw at Frome was followed by a 3-0 win for United in the replay. There is a detailed look back at those games in Saturday’s matchday programme.

A reminder to supporters that, as usual, the small bar will not be available before the game or at half-time as it is required for sponsors and guests. It will be open to all after the game.

Tomorrow’s match is sponsored by the McDonalds stores at the Gateway Shopping Park and Bridge Street in Banbury. Those branches are holding a fundraising day at the two restaurants tomorrow in aid of the Ronald McDonald House Charity
