This will be the Suffolk side’s first ever visit to what is now the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium. They had spent the last eight seasons in the Isthmian League, the last three as a Premier Division club, prior to being switched, along with other Suffolk clubs Lowestoft Town and Leiston, to the Southern League last summer.
They have shown rather a liking for their new surroundings in the Southern League Premier Central as they currently occupy ninth place in the table, eight points and five places above ourselves. Scoring goals has not been a problem for them, they have notched 55 and have the Division’s second top goalscorer with 17 goals in Joe Marsden but the other end has been not so great as by coincidence the 55 goals they have let in is more than both Halesowen Town and St Neots Town have conceded who occupy two of the relegation places. Nevertheless, a few weeks back they looked to have every chance of securing a play-off place though with no wins in their last four league games that now looks an outside bet!
Despite the rather long trip for many of their away games they have done very well on their travels, amassing an impressive seven away league wins though their heavy 4-1 defeat at Redditch United last Saturday will be one game they will be looking to put behind them quickly and they will I am sure be looking to do just that with a win at Banbury on Saturday!
For United, it is five league games without a win but at least the run of three consecutive league defeats was broken with an improved performance in the 1-1 draw at home to Redditch United on Tuesday, Banbury being denied the win by an equaliser from the Worcestershire side two minutes into stoppage time at the end of the second half.
United will of course be without Northampton Town loanee Sean Whaler whose season was sadly ended by injury on Tuesday. And Charlie Hawtin will also be missing due to the injury he sustained on Tuesday.
