We did so because we considered the principal use of the stadium furthered the social wellbeing of the community and was likely to be able to do so in the future. A number of football stadiums across England have been successfully nominated.
Cherwell District Council is now considering the nomination. We hope that they will determine the nomination by the end of January.
Basically, if the stadium is listed as an ACV the owner of the asset has to notify Cherwell District Council of an intention to dispose of it. At that point a Community Right to Bid will arise to purchase the asset. It is not a Community Right to Buy so the owner can still dispose of the asset to whoever they like.
There is more information about football stadiums as ACVs on the Supporters Direct Website
We at the club believe that if the nomination is approved it will clearly demonstrate that the stadium is a very important part of the community in Banbury and needs to be safeguarded for current and future users.
