Banbury were without a number of players due to injury and being away.
Banbury began the better of the two sides but as the half developed City got to grips with the game and looked the more dangerous. But Banbury defended well when they had to and at the interval the game remained goalless.
City had the better of the second half, certainly in terms of chances though Banbury had their fair share of possession, but they couldn’t find a way through the Banbury defence and would pay for missing chances when with just five minutes to go former Shortwood United striker Chris Withington hit a superb strike from 20 yards into the top corner of the net to give Banbury the win.
Considering this was Banbury’s first game of pre-season and City’s third this was a very promising performance against a higher level side.
