United exit the Oxfordshire Senior Cup at the quarter-final stage going down narrowly to their Conference South hosts

A goal from Kaylem Patterson nine minutes into the second half at Court Place Farm would prove enough for City to progress to the semi-finals of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup.

A largely uneventful first half would see the home side have much the better of the 45 minutes. However, despite their domination they found it difficult to break down a United side that defended very well. On the one clear opportunity that they had to score in the 20th minute when a neat passing move worked the ball through Jack Harding came to United's rescue with an excellent save from close range. For United, it was not until the 42nd minute that they really threatened when Mark Bell took the ball inside from the right before shooting across City goalkeeper Harry Edwards from a narrow angle, only for him to see the ball go just wide of the far post.

The second half began more promisingly from the spectator point of view. Two minutes into this period former Puritan Declan Benjamin put Connor McDonagh through on goal but the striker screwed his shot wide. Two minutes later George Nash for Banbury shot for goal from the edge of the City penalty area but the custodian gathered the ball at the second attempt.

In the 54th minute City would take the lead. Kaylem Patterson's initial shot from 15 yards was blocked but the ball came back to him and he made no mistake at the second attempt firing it low past Jack Harding.

Banbury though responded very well to going behind. Just two minutes later Leam Howards had a good chance but shot well wide from a narrow angle and the same player then had another opportunity but put a cross from the right by Callum White over the bar. United continued to ask questions of the City defence with Felipe Barcelos then putting a fierce ball in from the right over the bar from close range.

The game had now opened up and was good entertainment. In the 63rd minute Harding kept United's deficit to a single goal when he made an excellent save low down to his right from a good effort by Carlos Piffare from the edge of the penalty area.

Banbury dominated the last twenty minutes of the game but couldn't find that equalising goal. That this was not to be United's night was summed up in the first minute of stoppage time when a Ricky Johnson header was hacked off the line by a City defender.
