Mark’s work in securing sponsorship has been key to the resurgence of the club since it became supporter owned in 2015. The home and away shirts and training kit are sponsored, the ground, both ends and the main stand, floodlights, clubhouse and manager’s office are sponsored, there is barely room for any more advertising boards. The list goes on.

However, if we are to progress then more income streams are needed. By employing Mark for one day a week this gives him the additional time to look at new ways we can generate more income.

Currently he is focussing on promoting the clubhouse and getting more regular use or block bookings from hirers, which, if successful, will of course lead to increases in revenue. Mark is working closely with Sharon Wright, our Bar & Events Manager to achieve this.

The clubhouse has been refurbished in recent years and the car park upgraded. We have flexible space that could be used for a variety of purposes.

Mark is also working on other initiatives that will be to the benefit of the club in the future.

The investment in Mark’s time is a fraction of the income he has brought into the club and the Board felt that it was not possible to make a positive step change without this investment. We know that if we were using a commission based sponsorship agent, for example, we would lose a far higher percentage of any income earned for the club.

No one can doubt Mark‘s commitment to the club and he will still undertake work on a voluntary basis for the club in negotiating and securing sponsorship and remains a member of the Board of Directors. To ensure due process for his work in this position Paul Duester, who has the role of Business Development Manager on the Board, will line manage Mark.

Commenting on the appointment Mark said “I am delighted to take on this role and the opportunity to maximise use of our refurbished clubhouse to the benefit of the club and strengthen our links in the local business community”

One way of using the clubhouse is of course promoting local bands. This is something Mark knows all about as there is yet another string to Mark’s bow! A large crowd saw him perform as lead singer for his new band, The Keyboard Warriors, at the clubhouse on Saturday evening.
