Banbury United's partnership with Age UK, Oxfordshire, to provide a new Social Group to be held regularly in the Clubhouse got off to a good start this morning with a healthy attendance
After early refreshments, most welcome in the hot weather, and a chat, it was into the main hall for a relaxing game of Boccia (sort of bowls). The attendees were divided into two teams of seven. It was not as easy as it looked, though there were some surprisingly good efforts.
The social group is aimed primarily at those in retirement who perhaps miss the company of work-mates and would welcome the chance to come along to a new social group.
It will continue to run on a fortnightly trial basis, the next one is on Wednesday 5th July from 10.30 am to midday on each day.
Though the football club were delighted with the attendance for this first session, we would be delighted to see more at the next session - it was great fun.
We can't tell you the floor game at the next session as we are concerned that Dave Pearce will be on youtube to get tips on how to play it!!
The actual session was well run by Age UK and the sessions in the future are likely to consist of sport-themed quizzes, indoor floor games, talks and many other activities as the social group develops. Former Banbury United player Troy Bryan, who works for Age UK, will run the group and did an excellent job this morning.
Whilst everyone was delighted with this first session, it is important that as a Football Club we encourage as many of our elder supporters to come along and join the Social Group in order to make a success of this joint-venture. Attendance is not limited to just our supporters, you can invite older relatives who would enjoy a social morning to come, everyone is welcome.
The set dates are:
Wednesday 5th July
Wednesday 19th July
Wednesday 2nd August
The group is known as "The Spencers Social Group"
