Loss at the hands of Hayes & Yeading

MATCH REPORT – SATURDAY 10 NOVEMBER

Banbury United 0 Hayes & Yeading United 2

Banbury’s hope of Buildbase FA Trophy run hit the buffers at the hands of Hayes & Yeading who came away from the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium with a deserved victory.

Banbury were beset with injuries with Jack Finch, Amer Awadh and John Mills all sidelined and Ricky Johnson only able to take a place on the bench. Matt Taylor came in loan from

Oxford United with Marvin Martin released the day beforehand.

Banbury started the game at a good tempo and almost took the lead on five minutes. A
Greg Kaziboni cross from the right was brilliantly met on the volley by Steve Diggin. He must have thought his goals account would be finally opened but the visitor’s keeper Harris tipped his shot on to the bar and the ball was hacked clear. Ten minutes later and good work on the left by Diggin saw a ball across the six yard box but just out of Kaziboni’s reach.

However on 32 minutes it was the visitors who took the lead. Former Puritan Scott Bridges dispossessed Giorgio Rasulo on their own backline and the ball was worked upfield where a left wing cross from Little was met by the advancing Lee Barney who slotted it home.

Having gone in one down at the break Banbury’s hopes of getting back in the game were quickly made a lot harder when a Bridges free kick was met by Roddy Collins and his free header arrowed past Agboola.

Banbury pushed forwards but did not create any real chances or sustained pressure with Hayes & Yeading posing more of a threat on the break. Debutant Matt Taylor came closest to pulling one back when his high cross was tipped over the bar by Harris.

The game petered out the leave Hayes and Yeading celebrating and Banbury wondering when results will turn.
