Banbury United's under 18's venture into the FA Youth Cup has come to swift end being beaten 3 - 0 away by Kidlington in First Qualifying Round. For the second successive match Banbury just about edged the first-half, but went in at the break all square at 0 - 0. Chances were hard to come by in the first 45 minutes. Ryan Macdonald threatened up front with his pace and movement, but the Kidlington defence denied him any clear cut efforts. Aodhan O'Sullivan also had a good chance when put through after a strong run out of defence by Charlie Page. Kidlington did have an opportunity to take the lead themselves from a dangerous free kick just outside the area, but the Banbury wall did its job. The second half started with Kidlington beginning to have more possession and about 10 minutes into the half they were awarded a penalty. However, the impressive Charlie Barnett made a fine save to keep Banbury on level terms. Kidlington did not let this effect them and they continued to press and took the lead on the hour with a shot from inside the box. they doubled their lead ten minutes later to leave Banbury with a difficult task. Credit to the players they kept looking for a way back into the game and if either Ali Candler with a shot that went just over or Josh Wynne with a powerful header that just cleared the bar had gone in, we would have been set for a interesting last fifteen minutes. However, the game was finished off as a contest six minutes from time when Kidlington added a third and to be fair their second half performance meant they deserved the win and to progress in the competition. Banbury will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host Mickleover on the 29th Sept in the league.
