Banbury United Under 18's frustrating start to the season continued with a 2 - 2 draw at home to Mickleover R.B.L. After some early tight exchanges Banbury began to get the better of possession and deservedly took the lead on the half hour through a penalty awarded for handball. Ryan MacDonald took the spot kick which was saved by the keeper who parried it, but Ryan was first to the rebound and put the ball in. This gave the team a lift and within ten minutes Banbury were two up and again were indebted to Ryan MacDonald. A fine turn and shot by Ryan gave their keeper little chance of saving it. At 2 - 0 Banbury were in control of the game. However, five minutes from half time Mickleover were fortunate to be back in it at 2 - 1. One thing that will happen at times over the course of the season is individual players making wrong decisions and it was this that contributed to their goal, but the positive outcome of this was the team did not seem to let it effect them despite going in with just a single goal advantage. The second half started well for Banbury and should have gone 3 - 1 up when Aodhan O'Sullivan put the ball over from close range. Banbury looked to press forward with Aodhan and Dan Lydon on the wings looking threatening in support of Ryan. But, as the game wore on and with Mickleover looking for an equaliser it was not really a surprise Banbury were having to defend well. The back four of Reece Rowe-Wooding, Harry Gardner, Charlie Page and Alistair Loughton, who came on as a sub, all did well and with the support of the hard working Ali Candler, Josh Wynne and Will Dee in the midfield kept Banbury in front. However, a mistake in giving the ball away, led to Mickleover equalising with eight minutes to go, their player taking his chance well and shooting from just outside the area giving Charlie Barnett in the Banbury goal no chance. So another frustrating game in which possibly Banbury did not get their just rewards, but it is early in the season and plenty of games to go.
