Banbury United Under 18's v Boldmere St Michaels
Banbury United Under 18's extended their unbeaten run to five games with an impressive win over Boldmere St Michaels who we were, considering their league position, expected to give us a tougher challenge than it actually turned out. Credit is due to the positive way Banbury started the game and this went some way towards setting the tone of the match in which Banbury were dominant throughout. The first goal came early in the game when a cross from Dan Lydon on the left set up Josh Wynne who saw his first shot saved, but he made no mistake with his second attempt. A second goal soon followed when after Boldmere St Michaels had a corner Banbury broke quickly with Dan Lydon sent Ryan MacDonald sprinting away and he crossed from the right and Ali Candler scored with a fine finish into the roof of the net. Two more goals were scored before half time. The first of these was when Huw Reece played a ball in to Ryan MacDonald who showed great awareness to leave it which allowed Josh Wynne through to score his second and Banbury's third. Goal number four came when Jack Randall won a challenge in the middle of the park and got the ball to Ali Candler who played a superb through ball to Ryan MacDonald who raced clear to score his second of the match. The second half continued as the first with Banbury playing some good football. A fifth goal was not long in coming when Dan Lydon found some space in the box and shot low pass the goalkeeper. A sixth goal came when a surging run through the middle of the park by Ali Candler resulted in him passing to Josh Wynne who completed a well deserved hat trick. Ali Candler then showed great determination to win the ball and power forward into the penalty area to fire home number seven and it was the same player showing the same willingness to challenge for everything which resulted in him setting up Aodhan O'Sullivan to shoot home from inside the area. This was a really good performance against a team just below us in the league. This win also keeps Banbury in the top ten with some interesting games coming up.
