Banbury United Under 18's stretched their unbeaten run to five games with a comfortable 3 - 0 win away at Red Star AFC. Banbury took a while to settle into the game, but once they had a foothold in the game the outcome was never really in doubt. Banbury thought they had a penalty early on after Dan Lydon appeared to be brought down in the box. The Referee at first awarded the spot kick, but after consulting with the linesman changed his mind and gave a goal kick. However, Banbury didn't have to wait to long to take the lead when Dan Lydon held off challenges from the Red Star defence to run through and finish well. Banbury scored a second soon after when Josh Wynne got a final touch to an effort from Will Dee so Banbury had a 2 - 0 advantage at half-time. The second half continued with Banbury in control. Red Star's cause was not helped when their goalkeeper had to go off injured after hurting himself tipping a long range effort from Jack Randall over the bar. One of their outfield players took over in goal. Banbury made sure of the win when Huw Reece scored a third goal and his second in two games. As usual his celebration was entertaining! Banbury could have scored a fourth when they were awarded a penalty near the end, but their "keeper" saved Josh Wynne's spot kick. A disappointment for Josh as he looks to finish as the league's top scorer. The Under 18's have another away game next Saturday and that will probably be the last game of the season and a possible top six finish a real possibility which would complete a good campaign for the team.
