Bedworth Utd v Banbury United Youth
By Del Randall
Banbury United Under 18's drew their first match of 2019 3 - 3 away at Bedworth Utd. It was the first game in two weeks so the early exchanges were a little off the pace. Bedworth were having the better possession and it was no surprise when after 10 minutes they took the lead. Banbury were finding it hard to get a foothold in the game, but to be fair they kept working hard and were rewarded with an equaliser on the half-hour when Ryan MacDonald slotted home to make it 1 - 1. Then slightly against the run of play Josh Wynne played in Ryan MacDonald to score his second and give Banbury a fortunate lead at half-time. The second half produced a slightly improved performance from Banbury, but the two teams were evenly matched and it took a tremendous block from Aodhan O'Sullivan to keep Banbury in front when it looked odds on Bedworth would equalise. However, Banbury extended their advantage as they took a 3 - 1 lead when Ryan MacDonald completed his hat-trick soring from close range after Josh Wynne's effort had come off the bar. It looked like Banbury would be taking all three points, but credit to Bedworth they pulled one back to give them hope then equalised with just over ten minutes remaining. Their two forwards had been causing problems for the Banbury defence all game and it was credit to Harry Gardner and Charlie Page in the centre of defence that they kept them fairly quiet and restricted their chances. The excellent Aodhan O'Sullivan also had a good game at right back. A draw was probably a fair result in the end and The Under 18's will know what to expect when they play the same opponents in the First Round of the Knockout cup next Saturday (12th) at the Banbury Community Plant Hire Stadium.
