Banbury United produced one of their best displays this season, away at top of the under 18 Oxfordshire League and unbeaten Marston Saints.

Banbury started really brightly and passing quickly and supporting each other scored after five 5 minutes, Ben Morgan with a great strike form the edge of the box into the top corner.

Banbury quickly scored a second when Barney Webb was fouled in the box , he got up to convert the penalty.

Marston came back into the game with the Banbury defenders throwing themselves in the way of shots and when Marston got past the defence Charlie Barnett was quick off his line to save.

Marston finally broke through when a long cross field ball was brought down and finished well by the Marston forward.

Under pressure Banbury changed formation and were able to defend the half out comfortably.

The second half started with Marston on the attack, but to Banbury’s credit they defended well and always looked dangerous on the break. Charlie touched one free kick onto the bar and Banbury had chances with Ryan McDonald having a shot cleared off the line with the keeper beaten.

With Marston pushing people forward for an equaliser, Banbury broke quickly and when Paul McDonald passed to Josh Wynne who had broken through from his own half, he kept calm and finished well'

Banbury saw out the final few minutes to earn a well-deserved 3-1 win.

With Banbury having a team meeting after their game midweek, this was a great display full of commitment, character and class.
