Banbury United 3-0 Swindon Supermarine
Banbury advance in FA Trophy
Having been pegged back by a late equaliser at Swindon on Saturday Banbury ran out convincing winners in their Buildbase FA Trophy 1st Qualifying Round replay.
Banbury fielded the same starting eleven as Saturday with the only change Steve Diggin coming into the squad on the bench after his honeymoon.
Banbury played some tidy compact football in the first half and had the best of possession but failed to carve out any real chances. The closest they came to scoring was when a John Mills cross from the right was turned over the bar from close range by a Swindon defender. Swindon's best opportunity came when overlapping right back Dan Williamson raced forward to strike the top of the bar from 20 yards. So the teams went in goalless at half time.
The second half burst into life after two minutes when Greg Kaziboni intercepted a lateral pass at the half way line from former Puritan Conor McDonagh. He advanced on the goal with Jarra in close pursuit and poked the ball past Sawyer to give Banbury the lead. Swindon had a great chance to get straight back on terms when Manny Agboola handled outside the area and gave away a free kick which Bradley Gray fired just wide.
Kaziboni almost turned provider when he provided a cross for the advancing Jack Self who headed powerfully but wide of the target. However Banbury didn't have to wait too long for the crucial second which came on 64 minutes. Kaziboni advanced into the box and cut inside to hit a left foot shot that was deflected past the prone Sawyer.
After that Banbury took control of the game and skipper Ricky Johnson made sure of the win on 78 minutes. He outmuscled Coupe in the air after a high ball from Diggin, advanced past Sawyer and slotted home for Banbury's third.
Although Swindon carved out a couple of decent chances in the final few minutes Banbury were able to hold on for a clean sheet and a home draw against Hayes & Yeading the next round.
