Banbury United 1 Redditch United 3

United are well beaten by an impressive Redditch United side

As the first half developed Redditch began to look the more likely of the two sides to open the scoring. In the 10th minute a free-kick from a yard outside the Banbury penalty area taken by Pauly Aspostolopoulos saw the ball go just inches over the bar and brush the top of the net.

In the 19th minute Aspostolopoulos put Dior Angos through on goal down the right, his shot looked bound for the bottom far corner of the net but Jack Harding in the Banbury goal did well to dive to his right to tip the ball around the post for a corner.

However, the former Puritan didn't have to wait too long to make the breakthrough that Redditch had been threatening as he hit a superb shot from the edge of the Banbury penalty area down the left into the top far corner of the net.

Just seven minutes later it was 2-0 when Spencer Weir-Daley headed home a left-wing cross from Nathan Fox.

Redditch now looked very impressive and passed the ball around with some style. Five minutes before the interval a Weir-Daley shot from just outside the Banbury area flashed just wide.

Banbury huffed and puffed early in the second half but seldom looked threatening in the worsening and unpleasant conditions as rain lashed down in the strong wind.

Substitute Danico Johnson had only been on the field a couple of minutes but made a quick impact on the game by scoring Redditch's third goal with a quarter of an hour to go when he was set up by Angus and struck the ball with venom from 15 yards right into the bottom corner of the net giving Harding no chance.

Ironically, now the game was effectively out of Banbury's reach they would go on to have their best spell of the game in the final fifteen minutes.

Jefferson Louis had the ball in the back of the net on 85 minutes but the linesman flagged for an off-side much to the disbelief of United supporters. However, in the 90th minute Louis got a consolation goal for United by heading home at the far post a free-kick from wide on the right taken by Ravi Shamsi.

Redditch were very impressive and fully deserved winners and move up to third place in the table above a Banbury side who drop to seventh.
