Aylesbury United 0 Banbury United 6

An emphatic win for Banbury at Aylesbury United

Banbury began the game well and were soon having much the better of proceedings and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 11th minute. Josie Clark was put through down the middle by Sarah Rhind-O’Neil and then calmly placed the ball past the home custodian from ten yards.

In the 17th minute Banbury were two goals up when a deep cross from the left by Yazmin Holmes went over the goalkeeper’s head into the far top corner of the net. Three minutes later and Banbury were firmly in control as a cross in from the right caused problems in the Aylesbury penalty area and with the home side unable to clear the ball, Rochelle Buick was on hand to fire it home from the edge of the six yard box to make it 3-0.

Banbury would continue to dominate the half but were unable to add to their early three goal haul prior to half time.

Eight minutes into the second half and the ball somehow stayed out of the Aylesbury net as a cross in from the left by Kailey Hardy saw first Katerina Poborska hit the bar and then Debbie Andrews did the same with the rebound. United didn’t though have to wait long to add to their tally though as sixty seconds later Andrews fired the ball home from ten yards out.

The next ten minutes saw Andrews scrape the outside of the post with a shot from 12 yards and Lynsey Burdock have an effort hacked away off the line but on 70 minutes it was 5-0 when Clark broke through and from down the right hand side of the Aylesbury penalty area selflessly passed low into the centre where Andrews made no mistake from close range.

Banbury’s final goal came in the 76th minute when a Holmes cross from the left was knocked in from the edge of the six yard box by Poborska.

A convincing win for Banbury and they remain top of the Thames Valley Counties Women’s League Division Two North table, three points clear of Buckingham Athletic but the Buckinghamshire side do have three games in hand.
