United Ladies comfortably through to the Quarter Finals of the Oxfordshire Women's Cup and a home tie against Thames Valley League side Barton United

A hat-trick from Catherine Howse and one each for Alex Ayckbourn, Rebecca Howard, Jenna Rhind-O'Neil and Zoe Boote gave United a comfortable passage through to the Quarter-Finals of the Oxfordshire Women's Cup at the Spencer Stadium this afternoon.

United got off to the best of starts when taking a lead with one of the quickest goals seen at the Spencer Stadium for some time. There was just 13 seconds on the clock when a 30 yard speculative shot from Alex Ayckbourn was fumbled by the visiting goalkeeper, the ball being knocked up onto the bar with it dropping down behind the line and into the back of the net.

It was 2-0 in the 11th minute when a corner from the right taken by Zoe Boote was hooked home at the near post by Catherine Howse.

A third goal arrived for Banbury in the 25th minute when Rebecca Howard took advantage of a goalkeeping blunder to tap home into the net from close range.

The University side went close to pulling a goal back twice within a few minutes of conceding the third goal but Banbury would soon get control of the game back again and finished the half well on top though with no further goals the score remained 3-0 at the interval.

In the 54th minute a corner from the left by Boote was put into the six yard box and though Sarah Rhind O’Neil’s shot was blocked, Howse was on hand to smash the rebound into the net from close range to make it 4-0.

Jenna Rhind-O’Neil would notch her first goal for the club and Banbury's fifth on the afternoon in the 63rd minute when she headed home a right sided corner from Boote.

Oxford Brookes would pull a goal back that their efforts deserved four minutes later when a 20 yard shot was initially saved by Nicky Isted in the Banbury goal but in doing so the custodian hurt herself and the rebound was slotted home. Though Isted had to leave the field and was replaced by outfield player Howard it made little difference to proceedings and United would continue to dominate the game.

United’s sixth came in the 77th minute when Kailey Hardy set Boote through down the centre who took the ball deep inside the Brookes penalty area before slotting the ball home into the net.

The final goal of the afternoon came in the 82nd minute. Jenna Rhind-O’Neil knocked the ball through to Howse who in plenty of space took the ball forward from midway inside the Brookes half to just inside their penalty area before striking the ball into the bottom corner of the net to make it 7-1.

This was not the end of the action though as in the 89th minute Banbury's Jenna Rhind O’Neil was rather harshly adjudged to have handled the ball inside her own penalty area. Fortunately it was all academic (no pun intended in light of the opposition) by this time but it didn’t matter anyway as substitute goalkeeper Howard saved the spot-kick.

United will now play Thames Valley Counties Division One side Barton United in the last eight of the competition on Sunday 22nd November.

Banbury United: Nicky Isted (Kailey Hardy 68), Rakel Porsteinsdottir (Rachel Dunbar 66), Taylor Wetter, Lucy Durnin, Jenna Rhind-O’Neil, Sarah Rhind-O’Neil, Zoe Boote, Josie Clark, Catherine Howse, Alex Ayckbourn, Rebecca Howard.
