Banbury United are pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Phillips as manager of their Women’s Team who will be assisted by Kath Faulkner

Kevin has extensive experience of managing men’s and female teams as well as younger players over the course of the last ten years. As a player he was part of the under 21 teams at Borussia Dortmund and FC Schalke. Clubs that he has managed include the Army Royal Logistic Corps (both men and women’s teams) and local sides in the Banbury District & Lord Jersey League, including re-forming and managing Ashton Villa four years ago with whom he is still involved as Chairman. Kevin holds a Level 2 coaching qualification.

Kath spent 18 years playing in senior women’s football, this included eight years with Oxford United playing under some of the best coaches in the county, followed by three with Banbury United before retiring from the game a short while ago. Holding a Level 1 coaching qualification she has helped with the coaching on many occasions during her playing days.

Kevin, commenting on his appointment, said “I am very excited about the prospect of working at Banbury United Football Club and am proud to have been appointed the manager of the women’s team. Women’s football has changed over the past 10 years through the support of the FA and their new ‘Gameplan for Growth’, it’s an exciting time to be part of women’s football. I am looking forward to working with everyone at the club and the day-to-day challenges of competing in the League. Women’s teams at Banbury United have had previous success over the years and my ambition is to emulate this and put the team on the map once again. I also look forward to working with Kath who will be working in a coaching capacity, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge having spent 18 years playing herself, this only adds value to what we are looking to achieve with the women’s side at Banbury United.”

Commenting on the appointments, Martin Cantrell, Banbury United Vice Chairman said, “these are very exciting appointments for the club and we are confident that they will lead to Banbury United having a vibrant and successful women's team that is attractive to local players.”

Banbury United intend to apply to join the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League for next season, playing matches on a Sunday afternoon. Home games will be played at the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium. There will be some open trial dates to be announced shortly but in the meantime if you are over 16 (or will be shortly) and are interested in playing for the Banbury United Women’s team and have any queries then please email women@banburyunitedfc.co.uk or for an informal chat phone Kevin on 077340 60314.
