Banbury Utd U13s 8 - Grove Challengers 1
Banbury up to second in table with comfortable 8-1 win
A comfortable win for U13 Spencer in their 1030 kick off at home on a wet and windy morning.
Banbury scored within a minute of kick off when William Whalley curled a crisp 20 yard left foot shot beyond the keeper. After 8 mins Freddie Whitton stole the ball on the right hand side and his cross was deflected onto the bar. A few minutes later Cameron Woods played a ball through the away defence to Freddie who made it 2-0. Mid-way through Dylan Manley came on for Joseph Bennett, and Tom Isham and Edward Rogers gave Freddie and Cameron a breather. Banbury thought they had scored a third on 18 mins but the effort was ruled off side. Two more goals from Edward (21mins) and a Tom Isham screamer on the stroke of half time meant Banbury went in 4-0 up at half time.
The second half was all Banbury, with four attempts in the first ten minutes. Cameron just missed getting a foot on the ball at the back post following a Tom White shot come cross from the right side. A Joseph shot was saved, a free-kick from Will narrowly missed the far left post and a Freddie shot missed narrowly right. On 45mins Cameron scored the first of his goals following a Freddie through ball, 5-0. Cameron scored another two minutes later after collecting a through pass from Dylan and slotting into the goal after rounding the keeper, 6-0. Two more attempts by Will and Freddie were saved / blocked before Sam Richards, Tom White and Raul Ene came back on. Cameron completed his hat-trick with a low shot from the edge of the box to the bottom right corner, assisted by a through ball from Raul, 7-0. Grove's first real attack resulted in two corners on 61 mins, but nothing came of them. From the resulting break a Tom Isham shot missed to the left. There was still time for another when Cameron scored his fourth (all in the second half) from 8 yards out, assisted by Freddie. Grove did score a late consolation goal in the dying seconds.
