After having no game after the cup win earlier in the month, United travelled to St Eds for a later than normal kick off. The game was even contested for the opening period as United attacked up the slight slope and stiffening breeze. The surface was tough for either side to gain control but the first good pasing by United opened the defence as Ben Fish fed Freddie Tyzack who outpaced the defence and slotted home confidently. However they was to concede with 30 seconds of the restart as St Eds passed their way through the middle to score. From this point on United rarely threatened and conceded again before half time and midway through the 2nd half.
In an attempt to salvage something from the game and one or two carrying injuries, the shape was changd to 3-4-3. Initially this had an impact as United were in the St Eds half more often than any other time of the game, but chances were not forthcoming. Late on St Eds were able to score a fourth and were worthy winners.
