United travelled to Didcot on a cold but clear Sunday morning, the pitch was in good order considering it was frozen the previous morning and then had a deluge of rain during Saturday. The assigned referee had called off at late notice but the stand in official complemented the game that flowed for most of the 80 minutes.
It was an even contest throughout with both sides showing good defesive order, the first noticable chance fell to the home side on 25 minutes when a strong shot from the edge of box was somehow pushed onto the bar by Chris Brown. United then had their best spell of the game just prioir to half time, when Ben Fish collected the ball beating a defender he supplied a lovely left foot chipped cross onto the head of Marlie Popoola Adkins. His diving header flew into the top corner for United to lead at half time. The visitors going close to making it 2-0 just before the break when Archie Twelvetrees beat a player and hit the bar with a good effort from 18 yards.
Didcot starting strongly in the 2nd half when moving their impressive defender into midfield but this also gave United some greater chance going forward. Half chances came and went for both sides throughout the half but on 73 minutes a cross from the right was mis-handled by the keeper onto Michael Waterhouse who was able to nod home from close range. Marlie then scored very late on with a fine header from a corner from Dziugas Ringys to wrap up the game for United's first away win of the season. A good win for United where the first goal was all so important, a clean sheet :) with a strong defensive performance.
