The under 10’s saved the best till last in this round of Autumn Fixtures in the Oxford Mail B League, despite the drizzly, slippy conditions.
Both teams started well. Banbury began to put neat passing play together as the game went on. Excellent determination and good run from Kai Source followed by an accurate pass saw Edward Leney slot the ball into the net to put the boys 1 up.
Banbury became stronger after this and moments later, an excellent shot from Joseph Sparkes went narrowly wide. Two minutes later and the pressure was kept in Oxford’s half, a great tackle from Joseph was followed by another shot hitting the post and out for a goal kick.
Oxford Blackbirds had a foray upfield, the shot saved by Kallum Vaughan. What followed was the goal of the game. The keeper rolled the ball out, excellent one touch passing from Banbury all the way up the field reached Joseph and a fine through ball found Max Galloway who turned and fired low into the net.
Half time 2-0
Banbury didn’t let up the pressure after half time with early shots from Joseph and Liam Piggott saved by Blackbirds keeper. Banbury hit the woodwork again, a fierce shot from Rowyn Moore hitting the post, Joseph following up and the keeper producing a good save.
Liam showed great presence of mind to set up Banbury’s 3rd, playing down the wing he was tackled and didn’t give it up with an excellent cross to find Rowyn Moore for an easy finish.
Joseph Sparkes capped off a fine game, his shot saved and sent over the bar and then scoring a fine header from the resulting corner.
Full time 4-0
