It was a very gutsy display from Banbury United under 10’s in a Saturday morning thriller at Horton View Sports Ground but they couldn’t match the visitors, a very impressive Kennington Athletic.
From 1st whistle to last this was a very entertaining game with good chances for both sides. The visitors took the lead when the Banbury keeper caught the Kennington attacker and the resulting penalty was converted with 8 minutes gone.
Five minutes later and the visitors found themselves 2 up after a fine ball across the Banbury back line was neatly converted. Joseph Sparkes got Banbury back into the game a minute later with a well taken goal, however after 18 minutes it was 3-1 to the visitors after a direct shot from a Kennington free kick could not be kept out despite the keepers best efforts.
Moments after half time Rowyn Moore was unlucky to hit the post for Banbury and another fine take from Liam Piggott saw his shot go just over the crossbar.
Kennington went on to score a 4th, the corner kick going along the floor – missed by Banbury’s defence and fired into the bottom corner. Banbury made it 2-4 a short while later after a through ball from Joseph Sparkes found Max Galloway who turned and looped the ball over the Kennington keeper.
Kennington went on to score a 5th after a speculative strike squirmed out of the Banbury keeper’s hands back to the opposition and hit into the net.
Kennington were on fine form as their No8 and No14 went close . There was a fine save in amongst a goalmouth scramble at the end as Kennington tried to find a 6th.
