Kennington Athletic and Banbury Utd under 10’s we’re well matched in this 3rd/4th place play off at Forest Side Fields.
Kennington had the better chances in the 1st half but Banbury’s defence stood firm and upto the task at hand, to keep them at bay.
However, 10 minutes in, Banbury struggled to clear a corner. An excellent tackle and resulting shot from the edge of Banbury’s area was flicked in to put the hosts 1 up. They failed to add to that lead as the half time whistle approached.
Banbury had a much stronger 2nd half and created a flurry of good chances, Max Galloway shooting narrowly wide in the 1st minute of the 2nd half was a taster of things to come. The chances kept coming and 5 minutes later another excellent shot from Max hit the post and was cleared. They we’re not to be denied though and their strong determination was finally rewarded in the final minute, a well flighted corner from Nathan Whyman could only be cleared to Mick Antwi who drilled his shot goalwards and into the back of the net.
A period of 5 minutes each way of extra time followed for which the hosts again had good chances, an excellent one handed diving save from Kallum Vaughan keeping Banbury in the game.
And so it went to penalties, in this best of 3 the Kennington keeper saved 2 of Banbury’s, alas Kallum could not keep out the Kennington efforts.
Final Score Kennington Ath 1 Banbury 1 (2-0 penalties)
