The Under 10’s had the better of a fairly quiet 1st half at Margaret Road Sports Ground, Oxford. An early chance fell to Nathan Whyman whose shot was narrowly wide. Quarry Rovers had a good chance midway through the half, a flicked on header just wide of the far post.
As the half wore on Banbury started to impose on a tight midfield battle, a chance falling to Rowyn Moore who’s point blank shot at the near post was neatly saved by the Quarry keeper.
A couple of minutes before half time saw Banbury get a deserved breakthrough, a pin point through ball from Nathan found Joseph Sparkes who applied a neat finish.
The 2nd half had barely got going when Quarry Rovers equalised and a defensive mix up moments later from a Quarry Rovers corner saw Banbury 2-1 down in a very short space of time.
Both teams continued to battle well, the Quarry keeper coming to the rescue a couple of times, likewise Kallum Vaughan in the Banbury goal showing good strong hands to tip a neat free kick over the bar.
As the half wore on some last ditch defending denied Banbury, however yet another goalmouth scramble fell to Nathan Whyman who put the boys deservedly level and caused good celebration amongst the parents!
A fair 2-2 result at the end, neither team deserved to lose.
