Under 10’s win with a flourish

Both Chesterton and Banbury Utd under 10’s played with a lot of effort on this close of season encounter.

In a pattern that has emerged since the turn of the year, the boys had the better chances in the 1st half with a more evenly balanced 2nd half. Good early pressure was just lacking a finish, the best effort from Mick Antwi 10 minutes in, a good effort on goal tipped over the bar. After 18 minutes Banbury took the lead, a good run saw Joseph Sparkes tripped. Max Galloway stepped up to take the free kick and a mix up between defender and goalkeeper ensured his direct free kick hit the back of the net, a lead Banbury's effort deserved.

The 2nd half was only a few minutes old when a shot from Max was parried and following up Rowyn Moore shot inches wide of the post. Chesterton started to come more into the game, Banbury’s back line keeping their forwards at bay.

Ten minutes in and Kallum Vaughan was called upon as an excellent shot from Chesterton was spectacularly saved as he dived and reached across his goal to push it wide. A few minutes later and the Chesterton keeper made a great save from Max, pushing his effort wide. Chesterton failed to clear the resulting corner and Rowyn got the final touch to make it 0-2.

With 5 minutes remaining a mix up between Mick and Kallum allowed a Chesterton player in to make it 1-2.
It was end to end stuff for the final few minutes, Joseph had a shot tipped wide, Chesterton hit the post and Rowyn had an excellent shot from range hitting the crossbar and rebounding into the grateful Chesterton keepers hands.

This was the final competitive game for the Under 10’s for a while and it has been a pleasure watching their progress. Bring on next season...
