v Abingdon Town (A) 8th October

Banbury United under 11’s came up against a stern Abingdon Town Under 11 at Town’s ground in Culham Road this morning.

The boys started brightly enough and a brace from Rowyn Moore in the first 18 minutes of the game felt comfortable and fully deserved, the 1st on 9 minutes after play down the left found Rowyn in the middle, his shot aimed in the corner and in off the post, the 2nd on 18mins after great persistence from Max Galloway down the left again fell to Rowyn whose first time shot beat the despairing keeper.

However, Abingdon came into the game more, a close effort on 20mins was a sign of things to come. In the 24th minute another Abingdon attack saw the ball crossed in from the left, a defensive slip saw an unchallenged attacker central on goal who made no mistake for 1-2.
Three minutes later Abingdon were again on the attack, the official called for a penalty kick after a push, the resulting kick was sent wide.
Charlie Woods was unlucky moments later, his shot returning off the Abingdon crossbar. In the dying minute of the half Abingdon pulled it back to 2-2, the initial shot saved by Kallum Vaughan but he was unable to save the follow up in the 30th minute.

Banbury continued to be positive as the 2nd half started. Joseph Sparkes hitting the crossbar 2 minutes in and unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. In the 37th minute another defensive error cost dearly as an Abingdon attacker made no mistake for a 3-2 lead. The Banbury lads battled away trying to get an equaliser but in the 59th minute Abingdon scored again.

Final score Abingdon Town 4 – Banbury Utd 2
