v Didcot (A) 12th November

It was semi final’s time after the Autumn League had taken shape for Banbury Utd Under 11’s at Edmunds Park, Didcot.

After a 2 minute silence was observed it was down to business in what has been a successful time for the boys. The boys started strongly, with only 7 minutes on the clock a well drilled shot from Rowyn Moore following an accurate pass from Charlie Woods made it 1-0 to Banbury.
Didcot Reds plugged away and battled well to try and get back into the game. Banbury went on to hit the woodwork twice and Didcot once as a lively 1st half drew to a close with Banbury able to maintain a narrow lead.

Didcot started the 2nd half well and on 36 minutes the referee awarded a penalty for a challenge in the area. The penalty was well struck and in off the post giving the Banbury keeper little chance, levelling the scores at 1-1. Four minutes later Charlie was in on goal, his shot narrowly wide. In the 45th minute Didcot were awarded a free kick, saved onto the crossbar and the follow up also saved. The game turned into a midfield battle with little to choose between the sides, Max Galloway had a good effort at goal saved in the 50th minute. The game finished at 1-1 and 2 periods of 10 minutes extra time followed.

Banbury again began to get the upper hand as Didcot tired and Cole Relton hit a shot which the Didcot keeper pushed out to Max who hit the ball firmly to put Banbury 2-1 ahead. Two minutes later Banbury added a 3rd from a corner finished in off the post by Rowyn. At the very end of the 1st half of extra time Didcot were again awarded a penalty after a mistimed tackle in the area. This time Kallum Vaughan dived to his right and saved a well hit shot.

In the 2nd period Didcot had a shot well saved against the bar as Nathan Whyman took his place between the sticks. Banbury had a couple of good chances too but the final finish was not there and were unable to add to the scoreline.
