v Botley Sunday 3rd December

The Under 11’s matched their hosts Botley in their first A League encounter but mistakes cost them in the end.
Despite overnight heavy rain making the pitch condition boggy, they made a bright start, Joseph Sparkes going close with a shot just outside the area, narrowly wide of the upright 8 minutes in. They were close again in the 15th minute, Joseph’s free kick finding Charlie Woods, this time Charlie’s shot was just over the bar.

The hosts took the lead in the 23rd minute, a long ball upfield wasn’t dealt with and despite the miskick from the Botley player the ball found its way into the net. Banbury continued to try and pull level, in the 25th minute Rowyn Moore was unfortunate when his shot just cleared the crossbar.

In the 28th minute the hosts again had a shot at goal, a fine punch from Kallum Vaughan tipped their effort over the bar. The hosts scored from the resulting corner for a 2-0 lead.

Banbury had the better of the play in the 2nd half, Joseph again narrowly wide on 32 minutes. In the 35th minute he was very unlucky, his shot hitting the post and rebounding out. It was very much against the run of play that Botley had a speculative shot which ended up in the net for 3-0.

Charlie had a very good effort on goal, from the edge of the area, saved in the 50th minute. Botley were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area and the direct shot hit the bar in the 54th minute. Banbury kept plugging away, Liam Piggott with a fine turn and shot saved in the 56th minute of the game.

Despite their best efforts goals were to elude them today, final score Botley 3 Banbury Utd 0
