Banbury United Under 11’s came unstuck against a very gutsy Didcot on a dreadful pitch on Sunday morning. It was difficult to tell if the wind also played a part as most of the game was played at one end of the pitch in both halves!
Didcot were playing downwind 1st half and had all the chances, the 1st hit the post with only 3 minutes on the clock. They continued to pressurise and took the lead on 5 minutes, a defensive error although in fairness it was a mudfest and difficult to keep a firm footing.
Didcot continued to have the majority of the play and on 10 minutes and doubled the lead with a shot nipping inside Banbury’s keeper. On 15 minutes it was 0-3 as they continued to dominate. The keeper got stuck in the mud on 25 minutes as a Didcot player nipped in to add a 4th.
The change at half time got a little better as Banbury now had the wind behind them. Joseph Sparkes had Banbury’s 1st shot at goal saved in the 55th minute.
However Didcot did manage another foray upfield and a turn and shot from outside the area made it 0-5. Luke Penfold had a shot well saved at the end but it was not to be Banbury’s day.
