Banbury United Football Club is this year celebrating its 80th Anniversary.
Initially formed in 1931 as the Spencer Sports Club, after two seasons of friendlies the club joined the Banbury Division of the Oxfordshire Junior League for season 1933/34, beginning that season as “Spencer Villa” though changing the name to “Banbury Spencer” part way through that initial season.
Banbury Spencer joined the Oxfordshire Senior League for season 1934/35 and then the Birmningham Combination for season 1935/36. When the Birmingham Combination disbanded, Banbury Spencer moved to the Birmingham League (later the West Midlands League) prior to changing their name to Banbury United in the summer of 1965. The club then joined the Southern League for the first time for the start of season 1966/67.
Any archive photos of any period in the club’s history that you have and would be willing to share on the front of the website over the course of this season would be gratefully received and, of course, returned.
