Adi, born in Zanzibar in September 1992, featured for Leicester City Youth and Reserve teams prior to signing for League 2 Burton Albion following a successful trial period for the 2011-12 season. During his time at the Brewers, he scored his first league goal in a thrilling 6-3 away victory alongside scoring in the league cup win over Sheffield United the following season.
Following his departure from the club, Adi featured for Lincoln City, Gainsborough Trinity, Harrogate Town and Histon before moving to Oxford City in the 14-15 season. This is where Mark Jones first worked with Adi Yussuf helping become a prolific goal scorer. The striker netted 27 times in 39 games helping him to get into the National League North Team of the season. His spell at the Hoops alerted attention from teams higher up the footballing pyramid and as a result he signed for Mansfield Town on a free transfer before having spells with Crawley Town, Grimsby Town and Barrow, which guided a move to Solihull Moors in 2017. Being the club’s top goal scorer in the 17/18 season saw League 1 Blackpool capture his signature before he returned to Solihull Moors on loan.
During his time at the Moors, the Tanzanian international registered 73 appearances, scoring 28 goals. His next loan move came in at the start of 20/21 season as he crossed the Welsh border to sign for Wrexham FC. Here, he scored six goals in 16 games before being loaned out again to fellow National League team Chesterfield in the same season.
Since leaving Blackpool, the 30-year-old striker has had stints in the National League with Yeovil and Gateshead. He also played in Gibraltar where he featured in two European qualifiers and most recently played for Brackley Town last season.
In May 2019, Yussuf was included in Tanzania's squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations where he started against the eventual winners Algeria in the group stage. He has gone onto make three further appearances for Tanzania most recently in March 2022 competing in an international friendly in a 3-1 victory over Central Africa.
Adi brings a wealth of experience to the squad with his accumulation of over 170 National League appearances alongside 78 League 2 appearances. Mark Jones is pleased to add this the calibre of striker to the club with whom he has worked previously. He said: “Adi is someone myself and Danny first worked with at Oxford City. He is an experienced striker that has played at a higher level. He will bring physicality and know-how to our forward line. I’m sure Adi is still hungry to score goals and show the supporters what he can do. We are delighted he has agreed to sign for the club.”
